Program Requirements

Admission Requirements:

Individuals applying to the Graduate Certificate Program must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a valid teaching license in Elementary Education (e.g., Grades K-6) or Middle Grades Education (Grades 6-8), with certification in Middle Grades Mathematics.

Masters in Elementary Education (MEd.) Program

Graduate Certificate in Elementary Mathematics

If you do not have a Master’s Degree in Elementary or Middle Grades Education.

If you have a Master’s Degree already in an Elementary or Middle Grades Education.

Admission to the Graduate School:

All students must apply to the UNC Charlotte Graduate School.

Clinical Requirements:

Some of these courses have clinical requirements related to working with elementary grades students and elementary grades teachers.

Program Completion Requirements:

The North Carolina Board of Education has approved this state-wide license with the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of all six courses with a grade of B or better

  • Successful completion of an exam of mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge

  • Successful completion of a portfolio of artifacts from all six courses

  • At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience by the completion of program
